■Inspiration

In Japan, “sho-chiku-bai” literally means “pine, bamboo and plum” and are a traditional symbol of festivity. “Geisha” literally means “performing artist” and are traditional Japanese female entertainers who perform classical music, song and dance at merrymaking occasions. To illustrate the marvel of classic Japanese beauty and grace, I decided to bring together the two festive icons: plum flower and geisha. For visual inspiration, I studied plum flowers in books and watched the geisha movie “Sayuri”.
